Excerpts and photos from Exploring Alaska's Kenai Fjords:

Resurrection Bay

Seward and Resurrection Bay (map) are the gateway into the Kenai Fjords. Four State Marine Parks are in the lower bay. Top destinations include Fox Island, Thumb Cove, Eldorado Narrows (Right), Caines Head, Bear Glacier and Cape Resurrection.

Driftwood Bay, Day Harbor

Day Harbor

Day Harbor is immediately east of Resurrection Bay. The harbor is noted for it towering sea cliffs and cascading waterfalls along the Resurrection Peninsula. Top destinations are Driftwood Bay (Left), Safety Cove and the harbor's head with Ellsworth Glacier.

Aialik Bay / Kenai Fjords National Park

Immediately southwest of Resurrection Bay is Aialik Bay, located in the heart of the Kenai Fjords National Park. Top destinations include Verdant Cove, Coleman Bay, Holgate Arm, Aialik Glacial Basin (map), and Pedersen Glacier / Lagoon area. Aialik Glacier (Right) is at tidewater and calves into the glacial basin.

Northwestern Fjord

Northwestern Fjord / Kenai Fjords National Park

The best kept secret on the Alaska coast! Northwestern Fjord is a great place to spend time beach combing, hiking and paddling. Hundreds of harbor seals inhabit the icy fjord. Best spots include: Otter Cove, Ribbonfall Cove, Northwestern, Anchor and Ogive Glaciers.

Nuka Island / Kachemak Bay State Park

This is remote seacoast. Nuka Island, Nuka Bay and Nuka Passage are some of the more desirable places to explore. Scores of reliable haul out beaches afford excellent access. The Nuka region is legendary for its abundants of eagles, seals, and gold mines.

Outback: Cool spots in the fjords

The Kenai Penisula outer coast comprises more than 750 miles of coastline. Even today, many remote beaches along the outer coast seldom see people come ashore. Here is a photo tour of the best remote destinations on the outer coast, all very subjective! These include Bainbridge Glacier (Left), Taz Basin, Pedersen Lagoon and the entire Nuka Bay area.
